Abstract
Mensajes clave sobre la variación somaclonal en menta:
• La variación somaclonal es todo aquel polimorfismo genético que no se da
por mutación en las células germinales sino por mutación en la línea somática.
• La menta es una hierba fuertemente perfumada de la familia Lamiaceae, que se
cultiva principalmente por propagación clonal, lo que la hace una especie valiosa
para el estudio de variantes somaclonales y sus consecuencias fenotípicas.
• Las introducciones recientes de pocas especies de menta en América del
Sur, seguidas de una propagación clonal desenfrenada, hacen que esta región
sea ideal para estudiar el alcance de la diversidad genética somaclonal.
