Abstract
In pork production in the Providence and Santa Catalina Islands there has been some technology that you have been developing in your system which has contributed to the permanence of pork production.
Due to the importance of pork meat for the gastronomic culture of habi-tants and visitors of the island, it is important to continue to promote pork production systems that increasingly be more efficient and profitable.
Having in main the resources available in the island like a good breed base and plentiful of food and harvest residues, it is important to emphasizes on solutions for actual weakness of the production system like inadequate construction facilities, deficient sanitary control, and environmental con-tamination with residues. For these reasons with this publication we pre-tend to give recommendations about construction types, and management of gestating and lactating pigs and piglets, as well as to offer some alterna-tives for utilization of non traditional food sources.
