Abstract
Históricamente el mes de agosto hace parte de la temporada seca de mitad de año en la región Caribe y Andina
donde las lluvias a causa del fenómeno de la niña son escasas, aunque con mayores lluvias hacia la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta y las cuencas de los
ríos Cesar, Sinú y San Jorge sobre el bajo Nechí y sobre el Urabá. Asimismo, en la región Andina las lluvias son escasas
hacia el centro y sur de la zona, especialmente en la cuenca del Patía, la montaña Nariñense, las cuencas altas del
Magdalena, sectores del Cauca, cuencas de los ríos Sogamoso y Bogotá; en el resto de la región se registran mayores
cantidades de lluvia sobre el medio Cauca, el alto Nechí y las cuencas del Catatumbo y el medio Magdalena. En
contraste, durante este periodo la Orinoquía presenta altas precipitaciones, principalmente en la zona de Piedemonte
Llanero; de la misma manera, que en la Amazonía. En la región Pacífica agosto es el mes más lluvioso del año en las
zonas norte y centro, disminuyendo un poco el volumen hacia el sur de la región.
